Well, for the most part yes. For the musicians that are on the way up and are not signed to a label, and therefore paying their own way are much more aware of what is going on to their music but are want to do everything they can to make their recordings competitive with the big boys, and this unfortunately always involves making it as "loud" as possible. Almost all of the recordings I've mastered have been butchered in this way, but only upon the request of the client. I'll present them the way I think it should be mastered, and then present a "mainstream" copy with trashed dynamics and uber compression. Sadly, almost always they choose the latter, because again, they want to be competitive with the other crap out there. Sadly, the customer is always right. Joe |
