It just occurred to me that some people here might not care that much about Bowie and are wondering what the f#@& all the fuss is about!

I only own a compilation CD of his (I'll get a few others eventually) so I'm not a huge fan but his music was always a presence. His work was always deserving of respect and he really did constantly re-invent himself. Given the plethora of disposable popular music these days current artists may be looking at the worlds' reaction to Bowies passing and asking themselves how they might measure up.

It's weird; I am a huge Yes fan but David Bowies' death hit me harder than Chris Squire's (bass player and founding member of Yes) death last year.

Anyway; that's just my observation.

My wife is a big fan of Bowie and we have a few albums. Yesterday we pretty much spent the day listening to Bowie stuff, whilst reading and internetting and of course feeding and bathroom breaks! I downloaded one of his albums that I hadn't heard before. Still to have a good listen. He was very much an innovator and clearly influenced many others.

Iam a fan of 70s yes stuff, but haven't been able to bet into their newer stuff. I didn't know about Chris, or perhaps heard and then forgot, I have a terrible memory. Last musicians death that affected me personally was that of Edgar Froesse of Tangerine Dream.

I felt a sense of loss when legendary BBC Radio DJ John Peel passed away, he helped bring so much new and original music to the attention of the British people. I'm sure he would have mourned the loss of David Bowie.

My problem here is slightly different.
Some of my favourite albums have been produced by Bowie like Iggy Pops 'Raw Power' (just stay clear of the version remixed by Iggy, the guy is deaf as a door post and his mix sounds like it!), 'The Idiot', 'Lust For Life' or Lou Reed's 'Transformer'.
I never got into Bowies own stuff. Even Iggys '77 version of 'China Girl' is far superior to Bowies '83 version to my ears.

I have to say I also have a soft spot for his duet with Bing Crosby Little Drummer Boy/Peace on Earth. Besides Greg Lake's Father Christmas, it's my fav Holiday song.
