Default Anybody visited Leonard Cohen concert lately?

Last Sunday Leonard Cohen played at Scandinavium and the sound quality was the best I have ever heard in concert. It was really _high_ fidelity and the music... lovely. He made a show from 19.30 to 22.50! His band was magnificent. To night he is playing in Globen, the Globe.

A good Canadian boy. Deep, spiritual, thought provoking and sometimes enigmatic. Like I said, a good Canadian boy.

Cheers.

I grew up near the Canadian border, so listened to a lot of Canadian radio. Leonard Cohen was of course featured often. Haven't heard him in a long, long time, but "Bird on a Wire" comes to mind. Lots of dark, depressing stuff, IIRC.

Default no cohen fans here?

yes there are!

Cohen stuff sometimes works on subliminal level; asides, he was a poet first -then a singer/songrwriter-, so it´s imagery is a bit dreamy, dark and oblique...

I tend to pick ¨New Skin for The Old Ceremony¨ as my favourite -an old classic-; the more recent material is soulful stuff, nicely arranged (Dear Heather, etc).

I recommend highly the Leonard Cohen tribute album compiled by Les Inrockuptibles team (a french rock magazine) ca. 1991/92: marvelous stuff interpreted by R.E.M., John Cale, Pixies, Geoffrey Oryema, etc. : an excellent introduction.

just wanted to drop by and say

i am sooooooooooooooo jealous. big LC fan right here, and yet i've never seen him live, which is simply scandalous!

i'm so glad you enjoyed the show, and i'm not surprised that a man that might take five years to finish writing a song, would take such care to ensure his audience's enjoyment.

what was your favourite song of the night...or the song that most benefitted the extra attention paid to sound quality?

jane

ps. cal says of LC-" Deep, spiritual, thought provoking and sometimes enigmatic. Like I said, a good Canadian boy."
that's the best description of canadians i've read....i'm so tired of "Nice" and "Polite"

Yes I saw him 2 weeks ago in Birmingham and it was a very enjoyable concert. Leonard Cohen songs sound brilliant on my hi-fi system, simply lucid and clear just like at the concert!

If I was in the business of selling hi-fi for a living I'd probably demonstrate hi-fi systems by playing Leonard Cohen songs. They just seem to bring my hi-fi system to life....mind you, some of his songs might have the opposite effect on the listener!

hey andy_kaye

lucky you! but don't you find sometimes the slowest songs are the ones that are so haunting subtle they're almost suspenseful. i keep waiting to see how long he can keep me there on that monotone repitition of the music, relying on his varying lyrics and steady pacing instead of all the frills and gimmicks entertainers usually use...but i guess you gotta be in the mood for all that!

Cohen and ZEN buddism seems go very well together
In my youth I thought he sounded too weird, but well, I liked Mountain
But I do agree, Cohen is always a pleasure to listen to
But that said, it also sounds like many of his songs becomes more alive with certain other artists
