"Tren Reznor is not only breaking the old distribution model, he's even breaking the newest, like Radiohead's pay-what-you-want: Nine Inch Nails' latest album—The Slip—is 100% free, no payment required in any case, not even when you download the whooping 1.2GB version—which includes high definition WAVE 24/96 files (better-than-CD-quality 16bit 96kHz audio.) You can also choose from high-quality MP3s, FLAC lossless and M4A lossless. Note to record labels: drop dead."

I'm glad to see bands that are trying to work with new business models in this brave new world. It will be interesting if other bands follow NIN's lead, or if it just comes off as a one time publicity stunt to promote a tour (where some bands can still make a few bucks).
Also a nod to the organizers in acknowledging that there is a group of people who want something a bit more than "Perfect Sound Forever" CD quality. They sure did get a lot of free publicity with the headline today...with a lot of people that would never consider "buying" NIN's music. |

This album is good... I've only heard it a few times, but the 24/96 seems nicer. Are there any links or any special requirements to play 24/96 stuff?

I've been playing it fine in a stock Windows Media Player in Vista.

your DAC or sound card might not handle it.

My soundcard is an E-mu 1212m I had to make a new session in patchbay for 96K, and then setup ASIO again in foobar2000. It seems to be working, it does sound good. |

I have no complaints
However, I'm not sure if the music from this album is of the same caliber as Pretty Hate Machine, Broken, Downward Spiral, etc.. Still, I like it and hope they keep coming out with more. |
