I am setting up a stereo system for the occasional party. The room is about 4m x 8m (12 feet x 24 feet), about 20 people at one time. The music will be played from a laptop and I don't have much money.

I'm looking at
http://www.australianmonitor.com.au/am/home/product_detail.asp?cid=118
the Model AV40PS.
or
http://www.ecav.com.au/ProductFiles/Miscellaneous/MS40_specifications.pdf

Both are powered 40w stereo speakers. I think the Model AV40PS is the better product, but I'm very unsure.

Couple of questions:
"The AV25/40PS speakers accept
an unbalanced line level stereo
RCA feed. NOTE: the right channel is the
powered AV25/40PS; the left
channel is the passive
AV25/40PS"
What does this mean?????
I want to be able to plug the laptop stereo speaker output (single jack) into the speakers. Can I do this with an adaptor or two?

I think these speakers would be big enough, just latin dance parties not a "blow your head off" type party.

I am grateful for all input.

"the right channel is the powered AV25/40PS; the left
channel is the passive AV25/40PS"

This means the amp for both speakers is inside the right speaker,
you plug the left speaker into the right.

They look a bit small for serious partying, more OK for Dinner music.... even the I'd be inclined to use a pair at each end of the room for even coverage
