I'm soliciting opinions on the crossover design for this project. I'm building a TM with a similar sized cab but with the 27TBFC/G. I've seen a bunch of different designs out there (like for the Modula and the several options listed at RJB Audio) - some of them very complex and expensive, to deal with the woofer break-ups etc. I've gotten very confused as to what to do. Main questions about this design are: 1) Is the crossover point (2300) too high relative to woofer break-up, and 2) Regardless of XO point, has enough thought gone into this in terms of slope, notching, etc? Again the main issue here is woofer break-up. Thanks for all feedback.

1. I would have aimed for half an octave lower, around 1800hz.
2. I think so. I don't know how well you could adapt that crossover to work with the Seas 27TBFC/G. It is a very different tweeter from the RS28AS. A 2nd order electrical network could do the trick. Dan |

Hey thanks for the reply.
Yes a below-2k XO point seems to be most common with metal drivers, so maybe I'll recalculate it to there. And I should have pointed out that I'm aware that the SEAS tweeter is different from the Dayton and would not use the same hi-pass network for it - but do you think 2nd order is OK at 1800? Will there be a steeper acoustical slope, and how is that figured out anyway? P.S. - I have no XO software - I can just do basic calculations.

Do you have Excel? If so, you can use the FRD Consortium tools to model the speaker.
http://www.pvconsultants.com/audio/frdgroup.htm If you don't have a way to measure your project, I highly recommend against designing your own crossover. I'm designing my third one, and it's not getting any easier. Dan |

Yes I have Excel and I suppose I should download some of these programs.
But I'm not intending to design my own XO - just trying to find an existing one that could be adapted to the 27TB without huge changes. They're out there, but the ones I've seen, even those specifically for the SEAS tweet, are either very complex/expensive or just not well reviewed here. The search continues...
