Default Onken with Emminence 15"

Hi all,

I am in constant search fore the very special and cheap driver, and there never seems to be any luck

But now I have got a suspicion that this Emminence Gamma-15 might work very well in Onken and seem to go quite low

About 180 liter and sensitivity 95db up to 500hz - should work fine in a standard 3way, or maybe even with a fullrange

Cost 73 EUR

Any comments on that

Greets!

Only that the vents are still too long at the lowest Sd'/Sd factor = 0.75.

OK, I should have known that 180 liter is too small with a 15" in Onken

It should be used in a standard BR, maybe with slot port and I reckon that will be very nice anyway

GM, thank you fore evaluation

Greets!

You're welcome!

Hmm, not necessarily, I assume you'll either need an inductor, which has some series resistance or you can add some to 'fill' a larger cab. That, or build an EBS alignment, which normally blends better with the room. Adding 1 ohm and n = 7 drops the vent length enough and tuning to the mid 30s, otherwise if space is the issue and ~42 Hz is low enough, then a MLTL is probably best overall.

Hi,
GM, what do you mean by "EBS" alignment, and "n=7", if its not too complicated to explain

I guess with relative low Xmax=3mm, it should not be tuned too low

I would like to build the thing, not that I need it really

its not "for free", but from time to time I can see there is some demand for such a speaker, so at some time I might just do it, and hopefully find worldwide obtainable parts
Midrange could be AltecLansing inwall CF404-8A, and maybe a BohlenderGreabender tweeter

The 92-95db might come in handy when I build my small tubeamp

EBS = extended bass shelf. It's a larger than normal cab tuned low, typically as low as 0.7*Fs to get a ~sealed low Q alignment except with more gain above Fb for best transient response and take advantage of some room gain to make it perform ~flat in-room to a lower effective F3.

Onken alignments are defined by their 'n' factor, with 6.34 being the default and what the 180 L one is. Increasing it progressively increases Vb and decreases F3, Fb.

Forgot, sorry...I might have calculated with lowering Fs from 33hz to 30hz preferably with coating (complicated) or some epoxy around dustcap (could be measured)

I would really like a new dustcap glued at the point where membrane and voicecoilformer meets, and maybe some stiffening in this area
I really dont like when they glue the dustcap in the "middle" of membrane - is it to get the look of a bigger voicecoil, or have I missed something
But then its not a beginners job, and hard to controll the effect with xo - midrange might need coating too, and it easily gets out of hand

UPS.... suddenly not easy anymore will have to keep it simple and straight forward

Not AFAIK, the DC is used to shape/control its HF BW.

Ok, I have two options at the moment - build a speaker with modified drivers solely fore my own use, OR make it purely standard fore anyone to copy (which would make it more fun)

If get any further with this I will be back with details

Thanks
