i am considering some mid woofer for my own design, it depends on your music taste, I am now considering the following:
high price, $156 each scanspeak: 8545K, muisc taste: more on rock and jazz mid price $100 each, special $74 usher: 8945A, music taste: all rounder I think low price $25 each Gr research:M130, all rounder I think dayton RS125 or 180 good value: GR research, just bought 4 units incl 2 woofer. There are many others far too many to mention here. cheers |

IMHO opinion stay away from Morel, these drivers are a bit expensive for what they are offering.
Depending on your skill and budget you can try the following: If you have speaker measurement facilities at hand you can try the metal cone drivers from Dayton (RS180 ~50 euro in Europe) and Seas (L18RNX ~85 euro), but those are still difficult to implement. However, these drivers will give you low distortion and enough extension in bass reflex. From vifa you can try the PL range (pl14 pl18), but those are a bit mediocre in performance when compared to the Dayton, Seas and Peerless exclusive offerings, but the Vifa drivers allow for more simple xo-filters. From Seas you can use the CA15rnx or CA8rnx, I've used these drivers and IMHO those are the new choice above vifa pl series when you want a paper cone. The peerless exclusive is another steal (~70 euro), the driver has a great low distortion motor and a stiff treated paper cone which is easier implemented in a project then a metal driver, but more difficult to implement then the Seas drivers. Also the peerless does not have the amount of excursion and bass extension as the Seas. When you are a skilled designer then you can go for the Dayton RS180 otherwise I would choose the Seas CA18rnx if you do not have a measurement setup, or the peerless exclusive if you do and want to give up some bottom end extension. |

If you are going to cross it over around 100hz or higher, I'd recommend the Vifa XG18. The crossover is easy to get right thanks to the well behaved FR, and no serious problems that need to be notched out. I really like mine.

It will be a 2way so the cross more like 2500hz or so
I like peerless exl 18 and seas L18RNX and dont know wich to buy peerless has nicer mechanical options then seas but seas can go deeper and has nicer response. Where do I buy Vifa is a option to

I was referring to the xover frequency between the mid and woofer. If this will be a 2 way only, with no subwoofer, then IMO the XG18 is not a good option.
