I have a pair of Linn Keilidh speakers, I need to know the sensativity of the tweeters,(1 watt @1 metre) the tweeters are the ceramic type. I tried contacting Linn about them , but it is top secret they will not convey this information........

Well, it would be possible to bypass the crossover and measure their sensitivity...

I don't have the equipment to do that , do you suggest I take it to a speaker shop?
I really don't think anyone knows the sensitivity of the Linn keilidh tweeters.

Hi,

Generally replacing tweeters for no good reason is not a good idea.

Tweaking the crossover if you want to change the sound is a far
better idea. For example in my speakers I have added an L-pad
to bring the treble down a touch.

Depending on the crossover details there are other options, e.g.
to bring up or down the higher treble but leave lower treble.

If you take these to a good Linn dealer they will be able to upgrade your tweeters to the new cloth tweeters found in the ninka, katan and espek. This tweeter is a MAJOR improvment! Good thing is that Linn designed is from the ground up to be a drop in replacment for the old ceramic jobs (even though it is cloth and neo instead of ceramic and... ceramic). The new tweeter does run about .75dB quieter than the old, but there are two resistors in the crossover and if you remove one it will bring it into check (the dealer should be able to do that for you as well). If you find a very accomidating dealer they might be willing to just sell you the tweeters (they run about $60 each) and make it a DIY project! Even without the level adjustment it would be a major impovment, and you could play with many different resistors to get it perfect.

You can't just think about the sensitivity, the whole crossover will change if you just substitute some random tweeter in place.

Really, I thought as long as the sensitivity was the same it should work out?
