2-ways with the Neo3 - any thoughts?
I'm working on a pair of mini-monitors, based off of the Ascendant Audio Poly 6.5 woofers and B/G Neo3 tweeters. I'm hoping to build what amounts to a less expensive version of Darren Kuzma's Ex-Monsters. My leg's broken, so I'm not going anywhere fast, so I figure I may as well tweak the design as much as possible.

The problem with these speakers is that while the BG Neo3 tweeters have very nice performance, they seem to have some trouble below 3khz. While there are ways to deal with them, the best way seems to be to cross the woofer over at 3khz - one octave above the reccomended xover point for the AA poly drivers.
There appears to be a pretty hefty market for the AA drivers since they went out of production, and I can likely get back what I spent for them. These speakers will likely be my primary speakers for the next few years (ever tried putting Apogee ribbons in a dorm room?), and I'd like to do them properly.
I was thinking that a pair of Usher carbon-cone woofers would work well - they seem to have pretty good performance even above 3khz - but, unless they go on sale, there's no way in the cosmos I can afford them. And I won't even pretend I can afford the W18ex001's, because I can't.
Another wallet-friendly option are the CA18RNX/Ps at BESL. They're supposed to work fine with a 3khz crossover point, and they're cheap - $45 each!

Anyone know if these would be an improvement over the AA 6.5's?
