I am trying to build some smallish floor standing speakers that have killer fast and deep bass in a modest enclosure size.
The most promising approach seems to be that used in the Von Schweikert VR-4,6, and 8 bass modules. Four internal cavities all tuned to different frequencies between 20 - 40 Hz. Two ports interact with the outside and are aperiodic. Unknown if the internal ports are aperiodic. This seems to me to be the king of the cloning projects. Or at least just trying to replicate the alignment with similar drivers. Anyone tried this or have information or links to pictures or papers on the VR-4 bass module alignments. Or any picture or sketches of construction details. I tried doing a search for old threads but came up with nothing. Any interest? |

Further research seems to indicate that the tuning is a triple chamber mass loaded transmission line. Different internal dampening is used around two different drivers to tune each driver to different Q and to give the total line a varied resonant signature.
Have any of you TL builders out there tried to duplicate this approach. |
