Default AJ's Peerless/HiVi K1 MTM monitors

Hi Folks,

My wife got me a new router for Valentines Day, so I figure it was time to cut some driver holes. I guess it was just good luck, but I stumbled on AJ's design for an MTM monitor based on the Peerless 830392 5.25" woofer and the HiVi K1 tweeter.

You can read about it here:
http://www.pesupport.com/cgi-bin/config.pl?read=336002

I bought a pair of Parts Express .75 cu. ft. MTM cabinets and got the drivers from Madisound.

Excellent prices for both. And the crossover is very simple, and not expensive at all. In all I think I paid about $280 for the pair, and that's a bargain. These speakers sound better than speakers I paid 10 times that price for.

The tweeter blends perfectly with the woofers requiring no padding at all.

Maybe this design might suite some of you as well.

Thanks especially to AJ for sharing his work.

Anyway here are some pics:

Cheers!
Russ

Anybody know if the Hi-Vi K1 has tinsel lead in wires? Or if the wires break with low crossover points, I notice that it is not suggested for low crossovers.

Has anyone opened one up and taken a look?

They do quite well in Zaph's tests, amazing for $9!

I figured someone would say that, I've not tried Hi-Vi or Tang Band drivers, usually stick to Vifa, SEAS, or Peerless. Also, the large diameter means whatever it goes into will not easily take another driver. Looking for a reason not to get them I suppose.
