Default Dynaco A-25 Speaker Posts??

Hi,

On the back there are black and red knobs that loosen for the speakers. Do I wrap the speaker wire around them and tighten?? Or do I insert the wires into the posts somehow??

Sorry- My first stereo.

Brian

These are three way "banana jack" plugs. The red an black things are locking nuts.

It's been 30 years since I sold my A25s ( a sale I've always regreted ), so I'm working from memory.

The connections are three way with the following options.

You can put male banana jacks on the end of your speaker wires. You can get them at any Radio Shack. They come in both solder an solderless styles. They plug into the holes that are coaxial with the black and red locking nuts.

There is probably a hole in female jack (the part on the speaker) normal to the long axis, that will accept a bare speaker wire. You will probably have to unscrew the locking nut out a bit to see it.

Careful not to short anything out using this method!

You can also put a U shaped lug on the end of the speaker wires and use he locking nut to secure it.

good luck

The holes are very small by today's standards. don't try anything bigger than 16 Ga wire. Try some 16Ga solid core (Romex) from home depot. You might beb amazed. avoid "monster type" speaker wire that has a jillion strands of very fine wire. That stuff smears the midrange and makes the highs sound brittle. I have a pair of A25s that I bought when they first came out and have modded them to the max. They are now three-way and weigh about 70 lbs each. 10" Seas polypropylene woofers, Vifa 3" dome mid, Foster ribbon tweeters. Madisound air-core inductors and Solen caps. heses are the kinds of tings that turn ordinary men into dangerous tweekers that roam the back alleys of Ebay looking for deals on vintage Dynaco pieces to mod.
