Default North Creek Rhythm Revelators

I've a chance to pick up a pair of Rhythm Revelators for $1200.

I've never heard these in person, and already have a couple pairs of very high end speakers - Vandersteen 4A's, Apogee Studio Grands, Infinity Epsilons.

Why am I interested in the North Creek's? I'm just sick I guess...

In all seriousness, I am considering moving soon and may not be able to set up my big system for quite some time. I'd like to have something smaller that is still near the top-of-the-line sonically.

I'm looking for reactions from people that have actually lived with these or listened to them at length.

What do you feel they do well? What not so well? Do they have enough bass and does it go low enough?

Any comments would be appreciated.

My gut tells me that these are worth grabbing at the price, but I'd like seasoned opinions.

Thanks!

Question There must be somebody out there...

Bump...

Just for reference, I've asked for opinions because the speakers in question are several hours drive time away.

The reviews that I've read have been very positive but I'm trying to decipher if they're positive due to folks building them themselves or positive because they are really that good.

The guy doesn't have any decent equipment to hook them up to right now, so it will just be a quick test to make sure all drivers are working.

Also, apparently there was a review done in Speaker Builder about these. Does anyone have a copy that they'd be willing to email me?

Thanks for the help!

Default Wow, popular kit I guess...

Still waiting for comments...

I guess I'm driving to find out first-hand...

The components are dual SCAN-SPEAK 18W/8545SC mid/woofers and the SCAN-SPEAK D2905/9900 Revelator tweeter on top.

It's an MTM configuration. Here's more info about it:

From what I've read, George really knows his stuff but as mentioned in an earlier post, I've never heard them.

I was hoping somebody else had heard them in person...

I've been listening to the Rhythms for about a year; mine have the D28-06S, I think they're custom Ushers. Amps are Aleph5 clones, preamp a Grounded Grid.

I at this point have been very happy with them. My room is 25 x 22 with a vaulted ceiling and they have plenty of bass; although I'm not a bass pig. The Ushers provide plenty of top end shimmer and I understand the Revelators to be better.

The review in AudioAmatuer was for the Borealis. I may have it.

I have had other DIYers at the house and all have been impressed. There are no high end shops where I live, so I haven't heard any good commercial stuff lately. I say it is at least worth a drive.

Default Swamping your own thread

You may wish to be careful in the future: When people expect replies immediately (2 requests for a reply on the same day you started the thread), and repost about it, it screams 'control freak', and that's off-putting to many people.

I generally ignore such postings myself. Just a friendly bit of advice- people have seen your thread, don't keep pushing it, you'll just turn off people who might otherwise respond.

Hey badman,

If you read between the lines then you can see the guy was in a bit of rush for opinions because he was in two minds about taking the several hour journey to listen to the speakers before buying. I'd have done the same if I was enthusiastic but unsure about my next potential purchase and also had a deadline looming entailing a rather long car journey.

Thanks for the advice.

No, I'm not being a control freak.

I am trying to make a decision on these while they're still available and was hoping to pick them up either today or tomorrow. I don't think these will still be available a week or two from now at the current price as it's pretty close to what the raw parts cost.

Hence the push for as much information as possible, as quickly as possible, and trying to keep it visible on the main screen.

That said, I won't ask again.

Thanks to those that have responded!

Indeed! My posting was about the nature of multiple posts: I understand wanting to keep the thread alive. I don't begrudge Apogee his need to get feedback. Just trying to point out that at some point it can be counterproductive.

Good luck, Apogee, whichever way you go on these!

Default North Creek Rhythm Revelators

Steve

How did you make out. Did you buy? If so, what are your listening impressions. Enquiring minds want to know.
