Default Box design help wanted for SKO130.

I'm working on a pair of simple, easy-to-build speakers using my SR19DT tweeters and SKO-130 woofers. While the tweeters are more or less ready-to-go (I just need to figure out the best place to mount them on the baffle), I'm not sure of the dimensions I'll be wanting - between baffle step and all the other things I get out of WinISD, I'm pretty confused.

http://www.audiolabga.com/pdf/SKO130-4.PDF

The boxes will be made out of 1/2" or 3/4" reinforced (steel mesh) concrete with a butcher-block or hardwood baffle. I can make a port in the concrete, use PVC, or whatever.

I'm not sure of the exact woofer specs - I'm working on a test baffle configuration - but they should not be too far off from what's shown.

So, what size box should I use, and of what dimensions?

Hi,

3 to 5 litres sealed box, 8 to 11 litres vented, port 40 to 50 Hz.

Use WinISD.

That's the woofer that was originally in the www.murphyblaster.com speaker called the SPCA special. It's the grandad to the GR-M130, I think.

You could get by with the box that Murphy specifies in any of his MB-xx plans.

What should the dimensions be? Port size/length?

I'm sorry about the stupid questions; I tried modelling it in WinISD, and while I got values for the port and volume, I could'nt figure out what the dimensions should be or where the port should be. (I presume they mean a piece of tube that is used for the port?

It's only a 5.25" woofer, so a 2" diameter vent should do you just fine.

For a 10 liter box, (610 cu in),

45 Hz = 10 inch long port

50 Hz = 8 inch long port

Any number in between those should work fine.

The port can be anywhere. It is generally located, however, near the bottom of the enclosure, either in front or back. It does not matter which.

If the enclosure doesn't go 10 inches back, use an elbow.

The inside vent should be three inches away from any interior walls or stuffing, so it can breathe properly.

Good luck.

I just salvaged 4 of these woofers from a pair of Gale speakers. Are they any good? I didn't realise they were Peerless! Is this a different Peerless to the one Tymphany own now?

Yes.

It started off as an Indian manufacturing facility for Peerless of Denmark, apparently, but one of the Peerless of Denmark engineers bought it. Apparently they still, or did until recently, use Peerless of Denmark's research facilities.

'Model 5' a very thin floorstander that takes a lot of sand in the bottom half. 2 of these woofers and a cheap Vifa tweeter on top.
