Default Advice needed on some possible Altec VOT's

Hi all,

I've recently come across the speakers in the below picture,

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v5...t/DSCF0219.jpg

Well, actually, as you can see, there's 3, one upright and two on their front.

It has come to my attention that these may possibly be very valuable, and i was curious as to know how muck and whether the effort involved in saving them would be worth it, and if there is a market to sell them onto afterwards.

Thanks for any help any one can give me,

Fox.

Well, possibly.....I need to know whether they are worth the trouble of salvaging first. Being as i have no real experience with speakers of this nature, and no need for them either, i was hoping somebody would be kind enough to confirm they are what I've been told they are, and if they are actually worth money or not.

Yes, grab them, take better pics and post them. Those may indeed be valuable.

If they are indeed Altec VOTs A7 or similar with 288 or similar horns they are more than worth the trouble of salvaging. Any VOT is worth salvaging actually and will find a ready market w/wo the original drivers installed.

I think Zen Mod's answer was pretty clearly that you ought to hold onto them..

I noted at least one of the horn tweeters seemed to be sans compression driver in the pix.

The horn tweeters are multi-cellular and usually command a hefty price.

I can see some nice looking multicell horns there. Those are likely the most valuable thing. Next would be the drivers and finally the cabinets.

Lots of information on the Lansing Heritage site. Should tell you exactly what these are.

http://www.audioheritage.org/

VOTs by the way are the voice of music, and few speakers are more honest, or more exciting to listen to when properly set up and driven by the appropriate (SE) amplifier.. Any true music lover should hear a pair of these at least once in a life time.

Even if they were knocked around a bit, it would be worth the time learning to panel beat. At least 2 are 18 cell. The one the right may be a ten. A good find. See if you can locate the drivers. I can't see them in the shadows.
