Hey, someone on gearslutz sent me over here- seems like a tight forum. Alright, so heres my question:
So I'm taking a loudspeaker design class at school, and we are building these speakers: http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/showd...number=300-640 I'm sure they aren't amazing speakers, but I'm just wondering if anyone has heard them. My teacher claims they "sound like a $500-600 pair of active monitors". Any thoughts? |

The BR-1's have a reputation as being a good all around speaker for the price. At that price point you won't find much else to compare to. See the link below for some crossover modifications to improve the sound further.

Hi, I have been using a pair of the BR-1s for around 6 months and I believe they are hard to beat for the price. I drive them with a modified K-12 tube amp (see diyaudioprojects.com). My listening space is fairly small but they sound excellent. I use a pair of powered sub woofers to cover the range of 50 on down. Even without the subs the BR-1s cover the spectrum well. I could life with just them if I had to.
