Eminence Omega p-12A

I'm looking for replacement drivers for my speakers. I need dual 12" woofers for each speaker and a heck of a lot of power.

Has anybody ever dealt with the eminence omega p-12a's?

I'm thinking of ordering four of these in the near future since they seem to be high quality and the power level is right up my alley at 1400Wrms per speaker only for the woofers, add an extra 250 watts for the mid and tweeter going to 1650Wrms per channel which fits nicely with the amp I intend to build.

My listening room for these will be probably a large barn or something a bit smaller than a school auditorium when I can afford it. I'd also like to use these outside for medium-large concerts and gig's.

Does anybody think this is an appropriate driver for clean transparent powerful bass response? Or are there any other suggestions in order?

My speakers originally had a rather hefty set of older Vultan drivers and were designed for perhaps DJing at a 300 - 1000 person auditorium. They were custom designed for a DJ in vancouver BC as far as I know.

I believe the price for these is $1918.72CDN for the set of four. I'm willing to pay that if the quality is good and the sound will be big.

Also, any suggestions for new crossovers? Mine are only going to handle about 800wrms, I want to be able to handle about 2300wrms so I have a good SOA on them..


Any suggestions/opinions are thankfully accepted.

I used this speakers few month ago . My impresion is : Too expensive for how it sound. If you want deep and clean bass you will be desepointed. The Omega Series is made just for play very loud from 65 Hz to 3000 Hz. If you want a speaker set only for this buy it becouse for this aplication are very good.

For crossover use
- Low pass filter at 2750 Hz with 12 dB/oct [4ohm]
- High pass filter at 3250 Hz with 18 dB/oct [ 8 ohm ] and protection with lamp or polyswitch .

Use high quality capacitors rated 160 V or better at 250V, MKP.
Use 2mm diameter conductor for coil .
Use silicon or glue to fix very hard all components .

If you want i can post a schematic for crossover .

I see your ideas. Good...

I did find that the price is a bit heavy.

Can you suggest any other types of drivers that you think are better? I do want to make sure that they're worth it, I want very high quality...

Also, could you post an example of your crossover? I do know how to design simple crossovers but I want something good here...

Not as powerful ,but better bass is the Celestion Frontline 12 driver,12 inch,600w AES,40hz-3khz.

Also if you can afford expensive drivers. Precision Devices do an amazing 12 inch rated 800w rms,but i forgot the model no. But here is the site anyway. www.precision-devices.com

I tend to prefer 15 and 18 inch drivers for deep bass,12 inch for mid bass and midrange,10 inch or 8 inch for midrange and vocals.

Both 15 inch and 18 drivers are available in very high power ratings such as 1500w rms each[B&C],or 1250w rms Eminence Kilomax 15 and 18.

Also other 12 inches by Electrovoice,JBL,RCF for high power handling and good deepish bass.

I only use 12 inches for fullrange 2 way and 3 way pa boxes,monitor boxes,and midrange boxes,never bass bins or sub bass bins,because of the limited x max of 12 inches,and average frequency range.

I guess it depends on your listening preferences. I find that 15" and 18" drivers are too out of control, not tonal enough. I do want very deep bass abilities, however, it must be quite tonal and I need very fast transient response. Also, I intend these as replacements in enclosures that are already built, I can only fit a 12" driver properly anyway. Also, I'm dealing with sealed enclosures here, not bandpass or transmission lines just to let you know. I will however take a look at the site you suggested.

This is the response for 2 x Eminence Omega Pro-12 in a sealed enclosure ( 125 l ; 15% damping ) .

Ewww, the response of the speakers I have in there already is much better than that...

I bought an Eminence Omega Pro 12 (600w rms) to
test out. It's plays loud and it seemed to sound good.
Then later when I compared the sonics of this speaker
to my new Lambda TD15, I soon realized how horrible
the Omega's sounded playing midrange/vocals.
The Lambda's blew them away. For a PA system, or concert,
the Omega would work because nobody cares about high
quality sonics.

If you were building a high quality home stereo, then
the choice would be Lambda TD12 or even better,
the TD15 for $169/$179 (factory closing sale).

Second choice I would use PHL 12" drivers.
