Default New VIFA (pl18 + xt25) project

Hi All!

I am going to build a 2 way stand mounted speaker using Vifa PL18 mid-woofer and XT25 tweeter.

It will be a ~20L ported box with curved sides.

Since i am not an expert i have lots of questions:
1. How long and at what level should i burn in the drivers?
2. Sould I burn in the tweeter too?
3. Can I trust the factory T/S parameters or measure the drivers before calculating the final box size? (or 20L will be ok anyway? )

Thanks for all the information!

Another example:

Troels Gravesen PL18-XT

All Troels' work seems very highly regarded.

yep, either of these will do very nicely.

as for the burn in, just make the speakers, and don't be too critical of the sound for the first several hours of listening, and give them a real good work-out.

once you have say 20-30 hours "solid" music, then see if you think they need tweaking

Thanks for the tips and links!

I have some more question about burning in the drivers.
Is it safe to burn in the tweeter without using highpass filter? Will it exceed the xmax due to the low freqs?

What do you think can I start construcing the box without measuring the actual T/S params?

By the way, I have just started building a measuring mic using Panasonic WM-61, and a mic amp designed by Linkwitz.

Not safe. If you want to burn the tweeter w/o cap set for above 3Khz signal range. Or put a series cap as per Nebula or Troels projects.

Midwoofer T/S are used for bass alignment (thus box + reflex port dimensions). Once thereīs finished projects, its done

Sorry canīt help any further. For mic measurements and tests ask
people from Madisound discussion board.

Cheers

Since my last post, I have completed the burn in process and built a mic using Panasonic WM-61 capsule. I have also built a preamp for the mic and did some measurements. During the measurement the PL18 was mounted on a 40x40cm baffle. You can see some room reflextions on the graph, at least i think it is.
I will finish the plans of the enclosure soon.
