I am putting the finishing touches on a pair of speakers based on Rick Schultes article in AUDIOXPRESS ,Oct 2005. What has developed is a 7" wide baffle holding a 5.75" Peerless HDS 830882 mid woofer 8 ohm. The box is 42" long and has a 33 sq.in cross section. The tweeter is an AUDAX TM020J5 neomydium 3/4" titanium unit 4 ohm. The tweeter is 3 or 4 points brighter than the Peerless. The woofer seems to have serious breakup above 7khz. My major concern is Baffle Step compensation and its relationship to the rest of the crossover. Using David Weems information I calculated an inductor value of 2.2 MH with an 8 ohm resistor paralleled . After that I am at a loss . I figured 2nd order on the tweeter and 1st order on the woofer at 4 khz xover.
Questions arise about total impedance of the crossover and where the BS inductor is placed in the crossover. I no longer have serious test equipment only a very good Fluke meter. I have to purchase the crossover components and will buy decent stuff so I would prefer to get it right as can be on the first go . |

Try using the free FRD tools to reconstruct the design. You can include the baffle step. I like PCD (Passive Crossover Designer) better then Speaker Workshop.
