Question Advisable CAPS for passive crossover

Simple question, what are the type of caps (brands ?) for high pass passive cross over ? Is there a difference in quality using one type of caps for low pass say for 100hz and when filtering at 8000 hz ? Whic would be most appropriate ?

The opinions are varied on this one. Some say the caps are more important and some say the inductors are more important. Some don't care and will use electrolytics and iron core throughout.

I use electrolytics and iron core for bypass and when they're really big and I can't justify the cost of others.

I use metallized polypropylene or polyester for most of the series stuff.

Watch out, there are many opinions on this.

Clarity Cap SA is a good value for money, open, non gritty sound. Welsh product. For low-mid you can use MKT bypassed by 1uf Clarity SA.

I think Cal has it about right.
Big value coils and poly caps can be very expensive. Not sure if I agree on the use of electros for shunt, but I'm going to argue ;-)

It also comes down to the drivers used. Expensive drivers MAYBE warrant more expensive components

But.. generally, for use with use basic quality drivers, use a good quality poly where you can afford the size. Air coils where they aren't to big or expensive.
For large caps , I like the Visaton SAF. I think I can maybe tell the difference over a regular electro.
Big coils, use iron cores unless you will be really driving the speakers hard, then you may need to consider dumping the fund for air cores.
