To Veteran Loudspeaker Builders,
Does the Vas rating in drivers take into account the actual volume of air that the woofer occupies in the box? For example, supposing my (imaginary) woofer had a Vas of 1 cubic foot for a Qts of .7, could I just construct a box with 1 cubic foot of interior volume (such as 12in x 12in x12in)? Or would I have to make adjustments for the volume that the cone and magnet occupies?( And no, I would never use a cube.) |

Allow me to simplify the question. Do I have to add volume to account for the volume occupied by the speaker?

6f6,
don't trust anybody who ain't family - ain't that what your mother taught you? Don't EVER trust factory specs, as they'll never reveal how their tame engineer (hating himself) had to cook the books. The pair of drivers you have migtht be far from the honorably measured ones anyway - go for it and make sure. Pit |
