Default very inexpensive HT speakers

Im looking for ideas for some small inexpensive sattelites to use for a small surrond sound system for my new lcd tv. Ill be using a Panasonic SA-XR57 receiver and a small 8 or 10in active sub. Im looking to keep the cost of the speakers as low as possible. So far ive found the Zaph Audio Hivi b3s single driver system which costs around $25 per speaker. Any others? Maybe a 2-way?? Id like to keep the cost under $50 per speaker. They will be used strictly for movies and television and I dont listen at very loud volumes. So any ideas??
thanks
Frank

Silver Flute/Vifa combos (2-ways) for the front left and right. All the rest can be $10 tang-band speakers.

$150 for five speakers ain't too shabby!

Ya,

Try using a Silverflute 5.25 or 6.5 inch mid/bass since they are really inexpensive and good quality and combine it with one of those wide range 1 inch speakers that HI VI has. They are about 6 dollars each and are used in small computer speakers. THe reason I think you could make some good speakers this way is the tweeters have a very low resonant frequency because they are really meant to be a wide range driver. You could use an inexpensive first order crossover as the Silverflutes roll off really smooth in the treble. THe Silverflutes are 25 - 30 dollars each depending on the size.

You could probably get by with no crossover filter on the Silverflutes and only a resistor and capacitor on the tweeters at the point where the mid/bass starts it's natural high frequency roll off.

Get the PDF from Madisound. Make them a little bigger than really small but still compact and they could be really good sounding with decent bass down to 50 Hz. Even though you have a subwoofer there is always a lot of upper bass in the front speakers so it would be much better if you had a good 6.5 inch driver there in a 1/3 cubic foot cabinet or so. You really could have some good sound this way for a very modest outlay of cash.

You can even build your own speaker stands for pretty cheap.

You could use the 6.5 inch for the fronts and the 5.25 inch for the surrounds and some 4 inch for the rear surrounds if you have a 7.1 setup. Or the rear surrounds could just be a single 3 inch full range driver in a small cabinet.

Thanks guys, seems like I have a bunch of differant options. The idea of the 5in mid/bass with a small 2in widerange driver seems interesting. I see there are a few companies who make these small widerange drivers, HiVi, TB, and Aura. Which do you guys reccomend??
