Default Assembling Aria Crossover, some help needed

Click the image to open in full size.

I was wondering if anyone could help me in how to wire this up. It seems like a simple enough design, but I've never made a crossover point to point like this, and wouldn't mind some input on how you all would go about handeling it. Thanks.

This is a method I found that looked good, does anyone have any problems with this style? Essentially it looks like he creates a star ground for the crossover, by tieing them all together, then creates a sort of horse shoe shape from there.

The method described in that PE article is fine. Having a crossover circuit board makes the soldering easier. I like the Madisound matrix or matrix double found here:

http://www.madisound.com/cgi-bin/ind...d=1539839.2138

The matrix double is large though (11" long). You could probably fit the Aria crossover on a single matrix although it will be more tricky.

Another thing is to physically arrange your inductors in perpendicular positions to minimize crosstalk. Read this article.

http://www.audioholics.com/techtips/...rcrosstalk.php

The arrangement shown in Figure 7,7a is ideal for the two tweeter inductors. Place the woofer inductor on the other side of the board and at a perpendicular arrangement to the two tweeter inductors.

Good luck.

Hi,

That is the first crossover for a tweeter I've ever seen with a built
in low pass filter (R1 +C3), are you sure the diagram is correct ?

edit : checked the Aria 5 - seems to be correct, seems a rather drastic method
of controlling the top end, and not so good for the top end end impedance.
C2 is shown as 1 to 3 uf (variable) in the 5.

do you think its a bad crossover design for those drivers. I'm open to other suggestions. I have one method based on the Electra 905 crossover, but wanted to try something else.

well I put in a few hours on the crossovers tonight. I'm still recovering from bronchitis and quite out of it, so I can't seem to concentrate on such things for more than a few hours. None the less, I got quite a bit done. I built one of the tweeter crossovers, now I just have the very simple woofer crossover to build. Then I'm going to have to find a way to mount it into some sort of box so that all the inductors are mounted correctly. We shall see how it goes. Anyone have any recomendations on the types of boxes I might want to mount them into. I was considering aluminum project boxes, then I thought about some ebay boxes, but wasn't sure if aluminum was the best choice.
