Having recently seen a bunch of threads on the subject, I figured I'd throw out my latest foolish thought - a cheap open-baffle mid / TL woofer hybrid speaker.
The configuration is nothing fancy - it's a MTMW, with the mids used open-baffle, the woofer in a transmission line, and the tweeter mounted wherever. (Yay, dome tweeters!)

Anyway, I was thinking of using the following drivers:
Tweeter: These will only be used above 16khz to reinforce the treble of the B3Ss, which I've heard may be necessary - if not, I'm not spending much on them anyway.
The Dayton N20FB is $5, and works nicely up to 20khz. It's not perfect, but it's not doing very much.

Midrange:
The Hi-Vi B3S works well OB, and it's cheap. It also looks very snazzy. The SPL sucks, though - that's why I'm using two.

Woofer:
The woofer will be crossed over around 250hz. I honestly don't know what to use, but the W20RC38 8" silver-flute woofer is pretty decent, and reasonably priced.

The biggest complaint I've heard is that it "needs a midrange". No problem on this one.
Seeing as how I can't even figure out how to use WinISD, I figure I'm better off just gleaning what I can while people giggle. (Sue me - I'm learning Linux on my own time, and it's not easy.)
I doubt I can afford to build this project, but I'd like to see what others think.
