Default dbx & preamp master volume

I am a little unfamiliar using active crossovers and wondering if there is any problem connecting a tube preamp in place of the mixer to control master volume of 3 way speaker setup and amps? It seems to work quite well although there appears to be some noticeable hiss or noise on high efficiency mids and tweeters.
