Unfortunately, I am broke at the moment with many other projects on my hands, but I have wanted to purchase a pair of speakers purely for listening. If any of you have ever veggetated in a recliner listening to a good pair of speakers, you know what I mean. I can't splurge on a separate amplifier, and I was wondering if there is a high end pair of active reference monitors to replace the speaker/amp seperate purchase. I would assume that after buying a good preamp and CD player, you would end up with the same result, but friends have told me otherwise saying that monitors won't give you the same quality, and instead have a "flat" sound. If anyone can direct me to a good pair of nearfield monitors for listening, or a similarly priced alternatve, I would greatly appreciate it.

You might like to ask on another forum as this one is for DIY hi-fi. http://www.zerogain.com/forum/ is good , but mainly for the UK.
Either way, what sort of money are you talking about? I loved my PMC AML1's http://www.6moons.com/audioreviews/pmc/aml1.html ADAM are cheaper but also supposed to be very good http://www.adam-audio.com/professional/ Then for nice and cheap, I like the Alesis monitor one active MKII http://www.alesis.com/products/m1active/ Hope that helps. BTW, what you get is generally a more accurate sound. If that is a flat sound then look elsewhere for the problem |

If you can get a pair s/h, I can recommend the JBL LSR25P, great, well built active speakers, and a steal at the price they are going for these days.
