EJ Jordan JXR6HD and Alcone. I will make sealed cabinets good for 40Hz -3dB in room and let you know in due time.

Default Alcone

Hello Salas - interesting combination - I've never seen any measurements of or projects with Alcone drivers - do you have prior experience with them and do you know how well they perform?

You will see by me soon. The woofer has a very good construction. The idea is to help the Jordan and stay away 3 octaves lower than Alcone's alu cone breakup. A cunning 2 way crossing in non sensitive area is the goal. Aluminum well tempered is killer resolution. First measurements show +10Hz Fs than published. For frequency charts I have to arrange for the cabinets first since there is no meaning in general measuring.

On a positive note, I have seen that the manufacturer refers (an extra note in their homepage in German) to technical changes not mentioned in the Alcone AC 8 HE pdf. To Alcone's credit their new FS, Qms, Qes, and Qts matches mine after some hours of Fs sine wave run in. Vas measures 13 litres higher though. They need to revise their pdf. SPL is 91dB for 2.83V exactly as published.
The speaker looks perfect for the job I have in mind for it and its priced at 89 Euro. I wouldn't go for a 2.5k cross with such cones though. 5k breakups are strong and they always create IMD at an octave lower, even when notches are applied and response at breakup looks cool.

I'll definitely be watching this thread with interest. Mating a full-ranger with a woofer was my original plan for a monitoring system for my studio.

Consul - sorry a total sidebar here but I can't resist -

"Never be afraid to try something new. Remember that a lone amateur built the Ark. A large group of professionals built the Titanic." - Dave Barry

- Not a fair comparison - consider the "lone amateur's" architect!

Okay, I'll give you that. Still, though, no matter how good the design, you still need a good builder to make it all work.

Kinda like DIY speakers, innit? (And watch how I deftly get us back on topic...)

That's how it must be made for minimum diffraction.
