Hi all. I want to build 2 way x-overs for mini-monitors start with 2 mid/woofers Sea p 14 RCY 396 ( 5" 44-4000 Hz 90db ) and 2 LPG tweeters ( 1" 730-2000 Hz 90db ) the x-over point I have in mind's 2700 Hz bc this was original x-over fr. As 1st order Butterworth I should have .47 mH to the woofer and 7.3 uF to the tweeter, my question is should I input series Notch filter or Zobel network to it. Please give your inputs I would greatly appreciated. Happy Holiday Seasons.

Hi,
Build a properly designed, documented and tested project. Such as for 14cm / 15cm bass/mids : http://www.zaphaudio.com/audio-speaker12.html http://www.zaphaudio.com/audio-speaker13.html http://www.zaphaudio.com/audio-speaker19.html http://www.rjbaudio.com/Microbe/microbe.html http://www.rjbaudio.com/Calypso/calypso.html |

After I read those designs but wonder my drivers are differents if one of those x-o still work ? But if I use the above x-o calculations do I need to put a series Notch filter to tweeter or and mid/woofer ? This is calculation for the tweeter Re=6.8, Fs=730:
C= 41.14 uF L= 1.03 mH R= 6.8 OHMs Are these value of Notch filter correct ? Appreciated any help. |

They're from Silverline Audio SR-12 ~ 7yrs old, but the last owner modded them just 1x 3.3uF Jensen aluminum silver foil cap ? ( it's huge 1 -1/2 " x 2-1/2" ) and .47 mH 14 awg. inductor. I'm not sure if these X-O value are correct that's why I try to ask for help. Looks like he crossed the tweeter @ 5,960 Hz, that's very high while the woofer's @ 2,700 Hz and this I don't understand. The speakers sound bright. Hope some one will point me to the right dirrection. Thanks.

According to the above the crossover should have at least 3 components. Try an L-pad or L-pad value resistors on the tweeter. Most c/o component values do not match simplistic c/o calculations. |
