new to Altecs.... and some pix..

I was redirected here by Cal weldon. I have a couple of pix of the Altec Model Five loudspeaker. One of the pix is just to bug Mr. Weldon though. Price in CDN $.

Also have a pair of 409-8D speakers, will put them in an open baffle to try.

well with our $ trading at $.95 US,

ya, $13 USD would seem like a rip off.

I still haven't figured out the terrible rep 70s audio had gotten (certainly not as good as some 60s, but worlds better than most 80s and newer--mainstream mass market , that is)

with respectable wire, and a similar vintage amp or receiver (good ones), they can sound quite good. Or is it lush and am I just reminiscing?

Cal did ya get a look at that posted porn?

Model Fives ..

That's not porn it's prostitution. Nice score dork.

well from one dork to another, thanx.

Really, walked into local Value Village on a whim, and what's sittin there? I did "embelish" the price tag in the photo, but only for readability (seems I can't take a close up of anything in focus), but the content is accurate. Purchased the day before leaving for Vancouver.

Ranks right up there with a set of Dynaco A25s for $7.99 (well one pair at $7.99, the other at $10.99). I gave a pair away to a needy friend :) and kept one pair for myself.

My missus (the basshead) really likes the Dyanaco sound, but hates the look. She likes the Altec look, but not the size, loves the sound of the baffles but waaay too big, likes my Castles (but needs a sub), and likes the 20l boxes (old Musical Fidelity MC-2 boxes), with the HempAcoustics FR8c.

Also ranks with the Sony SCHP1001 for $5 (for use as a cd player--it's really that good), an Xbox for $25, and a QED passive control centre (pre-amp) for $10.70

now if I can just whittle down the turntables (to say five), my life would be good. So many turntables, so little time....
