I am currently using 4 SA-071's running form 60Hz to 800Hz.
The issue is I keep blowing them and replacements are not that readily available. Looking for any driver thats 7" Can handle 100-150 Wrms (200 peaks) 8 ohms Is fast (not fat) Priced less than $30 per piece or so. Any ideas?? I am thinking about the Dayton ES180... any exp with those? |

Alternately I can settle for a couple of hi-power (but detailed and fast) 8" or 10" ers.
They need to be 4 ohms and handle a minimum of 150Wrms or 300Wpeaks. Priced $60 or less. |

What kind of amp are you using? You may be underpowering the speakers...

Thanks.... these looked very nice, however the power handling is anemic for my amp... I will probably fry them. Did I mention I am using 3 woofers per channel? |

If you're playing so loudly that two 7" drivers can't do it, it's really time to look at pro gear.
A single 10" or 12" paper cone professional driver should provide more than adequate performance up to 800 hz. Your budget of $60 per channel makes things difficult, but the Eminence Beta-10A ought to be close to your budget. http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/showd...number=290-406 It's not 4 ohms, but it's very efficient and can handle a lot of power. |

I probably should have been clearer earlier.
I "can" run them as 4 woofers per channel in a series /parallel config. So each woofer will not see over 150watts... (or 1/4th of the amp's power)... instead of 3 in parallel... Secondly it is only run from 60Hz to 800Hz thats it.... which further increases the power handling... though it will not primarily run into 40-50Hz.... I'd like to have the option on the table incase I do not use my subs. (but this is not a deal breaker). If there are fast 10" ers out there I will consider it but pro gear and me don't mix. I triled a 10" EV (forgot the model) ... hated the sound.... it was more like an oversized midrange than a woofer (or even mid-bass). Even tried an Altec 515 in that role... didnt do it for me. Thanks for being patient. |

Most pro drivers are extended bandwidth units. To be a dedicated 'bass' driver in the pro market, you're looking at a 15-18" typically.
I think you're having some issues- very few 7" drivers will actually do a continual 150W dissipation, even if they wouldn't crush the voicecoil against the backplate from overexcursion (they pretty much all will if you're throwing that much juice at the issue). Perhaps you're confusing available output with actual levels? But if you're frying drivers, maybe not.... do you perhaps have DC on the output of your amp? That can fry drivers pretty quick...... If not..... Why do you need so much volume that you're frying drivers? Are you EQing the bass to be flat to 20 or some such? If you really need it that loud, get a pair of these: http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/pshow...TOKEN=94791660 One per side in massive enclosures (basic vented alignment most likely) would give you a lot of output. And if you fry those... you probably don't really need to replace them, as you'll be deaf already, assuming a reasonable listening space.
