Default Are -de-Q-ing holes a vaild way to voice enclosures?

a long time ago, distributed vents were popular and probably a "fad".

my Karlson 12 heve 6 distributed slit vents. Karlson's X15 had a 7 square inch vent flanked by 5 - 3/4" holes. My first reflex (~5 cubic foot) was tuned with 12- 3/4" holes in its baffle.

these techniques can make for a "less resonant" sound. Are they appropriate in this age of "enlightenment" and if so, could they apply to lines besides reflex? Freddy
