How cheap? Here is one possibility, but it has a relatively complex crossover:

For the price the Daytons are rated very highly, so if you're going budget this is probably a great way to go. These speakers, according to the designer, give very good bass due to the 8" woofer, the fact that the Classic series has good low frequency extension, and the cabinet is large and ported.

There are not a lot of 8" 2-way designs out there that I know of, and this one seems to strike a nice balance with price vs. performance vs. compromises.

If you are capable of building your own cabinets and the crossovers, take a stab at this one - remember once you've built it you're not "locked in" - you can always experiment with different drivers, crossovers, box alignments, etc.

IMHO, Dayton/Parts Express is a very bad choice for you, high international shipping cost completely negates the good value for Dayton drivers. Look to http://www.audiocomponents.nl or http://www.humblehomemadehifi.com first.

Yes that's a good point. The Vifa drivers might be the choice in that case. He's looking for an 8" 2-way - can you suggest a derivative from that site?

Hi,

The so-called "designer" knows next to nothing about crossover design.
(Or the bracing required in large cabinets for that matter)

Here is someone who does know what he is talking about crossover wise :

The bracing scheme is shown is poor. Will suggest one if you build it.

Autheim - perhaps at this point it would be helpful if you let us know what your budget is? Is $220 in the ballpark?

Sreten - I had a sneaky suspicion that the crossovers on the Noah 8s were needlessly complex - there's got to be a simpler solution with a paper woofer (even 8") and a soft dome tweeter!

Around $300

Planning to run them on a tube amplifier (2x40w) so sensitivity above 90db is probably best...

The Opal seems like a nice diy project...
