I have a pair of small Infinity speakers with the woofers missing their surrounds. (Dry rot I suppose.) I am aware that "re-foaming" kits can be purchased, but I'm going to try to repair them from scratch. I've found some material that I think I can fabricate surrounds from, and I'm working on a shaping device. (sort of a circular wooden press.)
My question is about the new material i have; I'ts fully twice as thick as the original foam, and has a rubbery feel to it. Very similar to the surrounds you'd find on a Cerwin-Vega. (That is, unless CV changed their design.)
How will this new surround material change the tone of these speakers? Generaly speaking, a little or a lot? Will it affect impedence, frequency response, or sensitivity?
Thanks!
