Whats the idea or purpose of reversing the polarity of the Mid Driver in a 3 way system?

The components in a crossover alter the phase of the signal in various ways. Swapping the polarity of a driver can bring this back into line. Vance Dickason's Loudspeaker Design Cookbook is a very good reference.
