The tuning frequency of the port is 40 Hz

Shorten the port a little. Tuning frequency goes up, giving you a boost. Your f3 goes slightly higher too of course.

Using the crossover to do it, you'd have to drop the mid to HF response, resulting in lower sensitivity and efficiency.
