Hello
I’m Mark, I’m newish to all this, I gave one project ago in which some guy helped me loads (jus a basic 12” woofer and a horn to make some noise in uni hehehe) i have some free time on my hands in uni and got interested in sound. I’m not looking to build anything fancy, just some nice looking speakers I cant buy in the shops! I’ve got an idea in my head to build a tall, narrow enclosure that can hold two 8” cones and a tweeter leave it uncovered and maybe just rub wood die into it so it goes along with my room in uni. I’ve got around £200 max to spent on drivers, wires etc. I was hopping that somebody could tell me if it is possible to put the following three together and run them off a 350watt 2 channel amp (350w per channel)? If it is possible could you also give me some crossover information (which I really don’t understand at all) and a show me a wiring diagram? I have limited cash and want to build some decent speakers which will go down to around 20-30Hz, so any alternative drives would have to be similar price. I can get 15mm 12board marine ply laser cut by the bucket load so enclosure materials shapes and baffle boards etc are covered. Bass skytronic 902.426 http://www.ecwuk.com/loudspeakers/re...rs/902.420.htm Thiele small parameters http://www.skytronic.com/rsc/doc/thielesmall_902127.pdf Using AjVented and winISD with a 40L box and the correct port the driver was predicted around 27/28Hz. would this enclosure need to be lined with anything? Or is it a simple box construction? I also like the look of this speaker and would possibly leave it on show, or make a removable grill. Mid Eminence Alpha 8MR 125W 8 inch Mid-range driver http://www.bluearan.co.uk/menu/index.php?id=EMIALPHA8MR Was hopping as this is enclosed, it doesn’t need its own box, so as long as I take its volume in to consideration when I build the skytronic enclosure it should make things easier? (I just don’t know about the crossover or wiring) Tweeter Eminence APT80 Don’t know if I could get away with using a cheaper tweeter? Or how I’d need to wire it or use a crossover? I’m just guessing that a 50w tweeter would break if I put 350w through all of this? I tried to find drivers with the same impedance (all 8ohms) don’t know if this was needed? I want to use a max of 8” for the woofer as I have limited space to store these, the box I used with winISD was approximately 420 high x380 deep x260 wide (is 30mm either side of the woofer sufficient?). I’m only going to use these to hopefully play music at a decent volume (louder than the 65w 5.1 system connected to my pc and TV), so they don’t need to sound perfect althought better sound quality would good. Any help would be great!! Hope I posted at the right place. Thanks Mark |
