Hello from Maine,
Have you guys seen the $12 speakers? http://www.kaiaudio.com/diy2002/maynard-$12budgets.html I would like to build $12 or similar speakers :) But my searching indicates that these drivers are no longer available. Can you tell me of a similar project that has plans available? Thank you, Craig |

I'm not sure the $12 budget includes cabinet material but it seems unlikely. You'll also take notice of the reviews: aparently those speakers sound, well, pretty bad. But hey, it's a thrill just knowing that $12 units produce any sound at all and that was probably the designer's goal.
I don't know of any projects that have a $12 budget but the likes of Hi-Vi and Silver Flute have a few similarly priced drivers (not a lot) that are of better quality so there may be projects out there |

Maybe a couple of Monacor sp-60x, sp-64x (4 ohm) or sp-68x (8 ohm).
The sp64/68x have flat wire voice coils and all have a drilled pole core, for the quality you get their price is very reasonable.

Yes, I'm sure the $12 did not include wood, wire, and hookups.
But it's a hoot that a loudspeaker could be built so inexpensively. I'm sure they are more than great for computer speakers at low volumes or workshop speakers when the tools are masking the music half of the time. I was hoping there were similar inexpensive projects, that driver dosen't have a sucessor? Thank you, Craig |

that project souds like a joke...
I think that 12 bucks could in fact do better. cheapo onkyo full range from madisound, 1.22 piezo tweet. electrolytic crossover, series resistor... cardboard open baffles. or just go for the fe87sp in a cardboard open baffle. that IS nice. Clark |

I think in this price range (that is if it may even be called a "price range") going for fullrange is a better option than spending on tweeters (awful piezo's) and caps (awful electrolytic caps).

hmmm. the Driver they used isn't a bad driver, it looks like the 1354, which can sound pretty impressive with the right enclosure.

Thanks for the replies fellas, I will certainly build a pair of these $12 TQWP :) Fun and affordable.
GyChang - do you have the cabinet plans for that driver? Attached are the TQWB plans I've found across the net. I am new to audio and don't know how to adjust the cabinet plan to suit the driver. Also, are you going to use a crossover? If so, please post the details. Cheers! Craig p.s. This page has plans, a filter, and includes a woofer: http://www.pmillett.com/tqwp.htm Here is an example with description: http://hjem.get2net.dk/sejrhede/diy6.htm Here is a 2-way version with plans, but not in English: http://audionova.nu/docs/QW200.htm Here is a plan for 8" drivers: http://www.aiko.com/images/TQWPversion2.jpg Here is a plan for the FX200: http://www.freewebs.com/ulzog/fx200.htm |
