Default Project Seas CA18RNX+22TAFG+Waveguide finished

Hello,

I've finished my project, using the Seas CA18RNX in a 15L Vented Box and the 22TAFG with the Monacor Waveguide.
The speaker sounds very good, but the design with the Waveguide has also some disadvantages, thats why I am going to build something new.

I have CAD-Drawings and the Crossover values, so if you need them just mail me.

The measurements:

0°, 15°, 30°, 45°

Finally I want to say, the CA18RNX is a damn good speaker.

Interesting speaker with very nice drivers.
Why have you put the reflex pipe on the side?

Because the speaker would have been near to the wall.

Looks like a rather quick, relatively cheap design. What are the disadvantages you speak of with the waveguide?

Would very much like if possible could you send me the CAD drawings and xover values, i'm about to go out of town, but email is demon2091tb@yahoo.com.

I'm looking for something for a reference setup, possibly some small surrounds, this somehwat looks ideal.

Thinking of going with Zaph's TMM waveguide for the L&R's.

The disadvantage is the "high" crossover frequency combined with the long distance between the acoustic centers. That means, if you move your head down a little bit, the drivers will be out of phase quickly and you will have a big dip at the crossover frequency.
But if you are going to use it for home cinema (with fixed height) I think this will be no problem.

Download the CAD Drawing here (this is all metric , I included the factor):

Oh and its not clear what Pipe you are going to use, just tell me I will tell you the correct length.

The crossover:
TT: 1,4mH (low! resistance) 6,8uF (ELKO is ok)
HT: 3,3Ohm (MOX 10W) 4,7uF (mkt/mkp) 0,22mH
[ R - C - //L - Tweeter]

Ahoi,

just made a new crossover!
XO-Point is now 1,8kHz.

Sounds: Ähh good, lower THD around XO-FR (you can hear that, especially in the Woofers Midrange) but higher THD at the XO-FT.

So what are the good news? I can move my head +10°/-10° vertical without having the speakers out of phase. Sounds good, no matter what position!

Crossover:

Woofer 1,9mH (sucks I know) and 15uF,
Tweeter 10uF and 0,15mH.

FORGIVE ME for writing SUCH A BAD ENGLISH!

Definently sounds better with the lower xover point, seems to me that you moved it from 2.8k, down to 1.8k, how is the upper midrange.......I love the CA18's but just the upper midrange lack of detail you find in metal cone drivers hasnt yet sold me on the project, or Zaphs TMM Waveguide for that matter.

I used to use the CA18's in my car, and i currently have them in some rather small bookshelfs mated with LPG26nafm's and the upper midrange detail to me just lacks.....How well is it improved with the lower xover point?

Definently looks like a relatively easy start for a pair of bookshelves.

Do you have a schematic for the xover design (first DIYxover design attempt, and i want to make sure i have things positioned right in the chain).

Objectively I can't say anything about details, because I just believe in Amplitude, Distortion and Directivity.
But what I can tell you is that the CA18RNX has higher distortion from 1,5k to 3k; so it should be better with the lower crossoverpoint.

Anyways, I am building my new reference speaker with the CA and 27TDFC without WG. This should be my best speaker ever: 1,5kHz XO promises low distortion, good directivity (well better than 3k without WG) and much "details".
If you can wait a little bit, I will then post a thread about my new project (with all the things you need).
