I'm using a Raven 2 ribbon in a recent and revised kit from Zalytron. I'm pleased with the results but I've noticed that Orca [the designers of the kit and the tweeter] have raised the xover point to the tweeter from 1800 Hz to 3,000 Hz in this new version. I have been unable to extract a reason for this higher xover point from Orca but I have come to the conclusion from others experiences, that the problem is that the ribbon fails more frequently than is acceptable when asked to handle the lower limit.
This seems to me to suggest that it's not really worth using the longer R2 ribbon when the R1 is apparently ok from 1800 Hz and costs a lot less. I make this post for two reasons ... One is to ask others if they have any experience that might confirm or contradict my suggestion and the second is to provide some feedback that could help others if they are considering a Raven tweeter.
