Default Charge-Coupled crossover

Has anyone messed with biasing capacitors in loudspeaker crossover networks on these forums?

In the link below I did a study of the effects using Solen Fast capacitors. The bias is applied a the centre node of two series connected capacitors and using a 9 volt battery the voltage is applied via 2.2Meg ohms.

The folks at JBL seem top swear by its virtues and while I can vouch for it making a difference frankly it does not make a silk purse out of a sour's ear..at least with my equipment (Passlabs).

Biasing does appear to improve performance of mylar and bypassed mylar capacitors and perhaps in this instance biasing a cheap way of improving performance with budget parts.

Although comparisons the ICW SA Clarity capacitor was audibly superior by a significant margin.

Wow great read, I will try this. One question though, do you connect the - of the battery to the - of the x-over network? Both caps will block the DC if I understand it correctly.

Taco,

Yes + to the centre node and - to ground, leave it on for a week to get the best results.

I experimented with biasing caps for my tweets and was very pleased with the results. It also seemed that the more voltage I biased with the better it got. I wound up clicking a bunch of 9V batteries together for a total of 100 or so volts. I was using 600V polypropylene caps.

One of the reasons that tube amps sound good is that. High DC tention on coupling caps (permanent). They always sound better than when coupling in solid state.

I have completed more evaluations and the Solens when biased are improved from dreadful to cold and clinical lacking tone and true fine detail.
