Hi Folks
I'am in the process of moving a pair of ViFa/Dayton 2-way tower speakers from main to surround speakers. Of course this goes with building a new pair of front speakers, potentially with a gain in quality. After being around a lot with different types of ideas, I'm wondering if going to bi-amping using the same driver configuration will be the best solution (it will maintain homogeneity between front and surround speakers - which sounds the best option). My speakers are buit with a dayton DC28F as tweeter and Vifa P17WJ as woofer from a parts-express design (http://www.partsexpress.com/projectshowcase/vd/vd.htm), in a 22 litters box. The crossover frequency is at 2350 Khz. The question is: will I have appreciable gains if i use an active crossover (such as the Behringer CX2310) to drive this kit ? Thanks. |

The CX2310 will deliver "textbook" crossover slopes so it could easily be a step backward from a purpose-specific passive crossover. The designer of the passive crossover likely compensated for baffle step, imperfect driver response, etc etc...things a stock 2310 cannot do.
With far more flexibility than the 2310, the DCX2496 could yield better performance. |
