Default Has anyone heard 3d spiral horns?

I am looking into 3D Sprial horns. I am looking at the Helix-H105.

http://www3.ocn.ne.jp/~hanbei/eng-intro.html

Now, I have a budget of around $200. The total for that is around 150 shipped with all crossover parts.

I am wondering if anyone has had any experience with these type of setups.

Thanks

These are not horns but conventional bass-reflex enclosures with a touch of fashion and hype.

You should also consider building your own subwoofer.

Eva,

If you notice, the distance bewtween the spirals increase down it's length thereby creating a horn. Unconventional yes but it qualifies as a horn.

Arc,

I have not listened to them but I have heard good things about them. They are a tough build.

Yes there was a pair of FR125s spirals at the last RAWfest. I would typify these as closer to a daline with an expanding port. Could be classed as horns, but the mouth is really far too small for any horn action where it is needed.

The boxes at RAWfest were amoungst the best application i've heard the FR125s in.

That's the point.

OK fair enough.

Jason, Scott and I had to leave for a bit and came back after they had been unhooked so we missed them. The comments I heard were very positive.

Hi

I never heared these spiral horns, but I'm asking myself how it compares to corectly tuned simple BR design, is the performance gain worth the extra effort overall?

Also, expanding reflex ports are not that new, here's an example of a Monacor design, which is a very popular 'bang for a buck' speaker in europe - and far more simple to build.

I think that question belongs in another thread.

I realize they are tough to build but I think I can get it done. I have been talking to Masaaki through email trying to clear up some issues between spiral construction methods.

I am going to do the disk method, but I am going to locate a shop near me with a CNC machine and just bring in the wood and CAD design and have them cut the disks for me. I think this will make the process much easier than hand cutting 120 disks.

These are going to be for music only and I would like a small bookshelf design like the H105's. These are fairly inexpensive and I think they would be perfect for a simple music setup. Would a 15w amp be enough for these? I would also like to make a Tube amp, thats why I ask.
