hi all
I have been assigned a project, for a friend It includes planning, buying and set up of 2 "pseudo" home theater for his house. I have to research and buy 2 lcd/plasma screens, 2 computers and 1 audio setup ... So i need help from you guys on deciding what to do with the audio on 1 of the setup. My friend and his wife, has probably no knowledge at in audio/video ..they can't even see the difference between DVD and HDTV and they surely won't be able to tell the diff between a sucky loudpspeaker and a good one. Problem is that I DO ![]() So i will not settle for a shitty setup for them, as i want them to enjoy it as much as possible even though they might not recognize the quality of it So my dilemn now is, to build diy or to buy commercial speakers for the audio setup. I will have em buy a good all in one receiver that will be connected with outputs to a Bryson 2B stereo amplifier ( 2 times 100W at 0.001% tested , was mine )And then a powered subwoofer for bass The room they will be using this in is approx 30 by 15 by 8 hieght max listening distance = 15 feet My friend does not have a good hearing, so it needs to be loud and clear. Then the problems get in, it needs to be compeltly or partially IN the wall ( recessed ) And it needs not to be too big I was looking at different monitor type commercial speakers..can't find anything good under 500$ and that's in used form. what would you guys suggest ? I know that their first criteria will be LOOK tha'ts why i am hesitating to go with a quick DIY setup The way all this will end could almost permit a baffle with a few drivers on it and no rear box ( using the back of the wall wich is the 10 by 4 wardrob thing ) i was thinking about something like MMTMM setup for a good effeciency ( in array type ) please help me decide on all that if we can avoid a subwoofer than i could probably put 4-500$ more on the drivers!!! would an open baffle type but rear beeing IN the closet work good ?? thanks all! ! |

Is this post for real? I think you are too specific in stating what you need and what you are trying to achieve; please be more general...

What budget do you have (not clear from your post, is it $CAD500)?
For home theatre i'd suggest seas coaxial drivers all around, the fact you won't need any baffle step compensation by the sound of it means you won't have to worry about efficiency sacrefices so much. Going this way has the benefit of very smooth power response, important imho for home theatre speakers where a wide sweet spot is useful |

ah c'mon ...
As i said, this project is not for me, and the people for whom i am planning that, aren't 0% audiophiles .. I thought about it, and i could seriously be able ( read have time )to only use a nice wood plate and put a few drivers on it, and then install it directly in the walls so that it fits flush to the wall surface ... Why seas coaxial ? those are full range drivers right ? budget is quite limited, and i wouldn't be able to make to install a sort of grille, so the drivers have to be nice looking ( wife factor ) i don't have any experience with SEAS drivers though.. why do you suggest those particular coaxial drivers? i'd say that 500$CAD in total ( drivers and crossover parts ) would be a correct budget!! i'd see an MMTMM arrangement easy! i took some real time to look for nice used units yesterday, and i can't find anything i would like to use withing this price range..so i'll go DIY |

i have to say that the use of fullranges is interesting since it really simplifies the construction
( total time required ) for me .. The SEA's seems like a ncie unit, but it isworth 115$CAD each wich would be a bit on the expensive side if i'd be getting 4 on each side .. what other full range driver options ? |

FR125S from creativesound.ca would work on open baffles. Unless your friends like to overdo the SPL, you'll be fine with just one per speaker.

solen, css and ? i thought i had another bookmark but i can't seem to find it! i really like the look and front plate finish of those CSS probably gonna buy 3 of em for each side that would give enough sound volume for this guy ![]() still loooking for response figure and effeciency rating though ..i'll give CSS a call later on |
