So, just what does one do with a pair of Aurasound NS3-198-8A's on hand? Call for a pair of dollar tweeters and go nuts on a little two-way I designed for multimedia use.
The baffle is laminated pine with a 1/8" chatke-kok bezel for the speakers in a design inspired by Chris B. Finish is 3 simple layers of Minwax hand rubbed. The cab is painted with enamel and sputtered with black laquer. More pics: http://bb.sicomm.us/diyAudio/Aurasound/Cab.jpg http://bb.sicomm.us/diyAudio/Aurasou...fle_detail.jpg http://bb.sicomm.us/diyAudio/Aurasound/Seals.jpg http://bb.sicomm.us/diyAudio/Aurasound/blends_in.jpg http://bb.sicomm.us/diyAudio/Aurasound/rear_port.jpg These two were difficult to cross and the online calc's and spreadsheets were less than helpful. Final values done with a speaker testing setup and FFT: http://bb.sicomm.us/diyAudio/Aurasou..._crossover.gif I'd like to thank Planet10, as he was instrumental in these by supplying the speakers and putting up with my emails for advice The sound is impressive for their size, but I find room placement far more critical than the front-firing ports of my DP-II's. Moving them 15cm meant the difference between soggy mud and acceptible bass. My only problem now is the WAF of these is so high, I'm not allowed to put the FR's back until I rebuild their cabs Cheers! |

Those look really nice Gregg. The red is a nice accent.
What are you doing up at 1 in the morning? |

They look great! Nice work.
I really like the look of those Aura drivers too, I have had my eye on them for a while and might use a pair in a future project. What are you planning for the re-build of your FR enclosures? Jason(from Chilliwack) |

Update:
After a week of listening, I did a tweak on the crossover (original schematic link in the first post updated). The correction is simple - change the 5 ohm resistance bridging the tweeter to 10 ohms. I also had the opportunity to replace the capsule in my test mic with the correct one, so the following is the corrected frequency response. It appears the $1 tweeter peters out at 18K |
