Default Can you guess what I'm building?

Can you guess this popular cheap DIY system?

While I'm here, any tips on making the wood grain pop?

Yes, it's modified slightly (2 boxes are smaller than they should be).
Here's another hint:

Is it one of those games where you put your hand through the hole and have to guess whats inside? You know something like "yeah its a bunch of Black Widows" or "I think its a 3 year old half eaten Tofee Crisp".

Man those games were fun.

Those are the Zaph B3S mini-monitors aren't they?

I just built a pair myself.

To make the wood grain pop use boiled linseed oil. Rub on a light coat with a rag and that's it. Let the rag dry outdoors though because the oil itself is very flammable.

Nope not a spice rack... although... now you've got me thinking :-)

No black widows eating toffee :-)

Ding Ding we have a winner. The Zaph B3S Monitors With the PE sale right now these little $7 speakers make a great cheap project.

Thanks for the tip on the boiled linseed oil. I'll give that a try, thanks!

I thought they might have been padded, sound absorbent boxes with a hole big enough so that you can poke your head inside and when you are angry without disturbing anyone else...

Hi,

As the box volume in the design is 4 x times Vas of The B3S,
(the boxes are generic in the sense they are the same for
the Tangband and Aurasound 3" drivers) the two boxes
that are "smaller than they should be" are in fact not.

/sreten.

edit : 10W is total overkill for R5, wirewound resistors can
handle ~ 20 x times continuous ratings on peaks, and R5
is only stressed near the notch frequency, 3W at the most.
