Default Heavier = better?

When building speakers is it worth adding extra weight with sand and/or lead?

It would be in an extra compartment completly sealed from the main enclosure.

Thanks

My feeling is that heavier is better. But the enclosure must be rigid and not only heavy.

If it helps dampen panel vibrations then yes. If it just makes the whole thing heavier and the panels are able to ring just the same then you haven't gained much.

The other school of thought is to use comprehensive bracing to push panel resonances higher up then use stuffing to absorb them. A less ugly approach imo.
