Do you guys find this a valuable and needed tool?

I want my first project to be a 2 way speaker for the bed room. Do you guys usually just go by the manufactures specs on drivers, or do you test them using equipment like the one in the link above. Also, feel free to add information about better and or cheaper testing equipment.
Sadly firefox crashed hard on me about a month back and I lost all my bookmarks. One link that I had recomending testing the driver inside the case before building a crossover.
How do you guys do it.

I'm think I'm starting to understand the basics, but I lost some of my get started links. I'll google again, but I had a LOT of links bookmarked. Each of them giving usefull information, but also, sometimes, information that clashed with each other.
