Speaker Testing Set-up

After seeing several DIYers telling other DIYers to measure their speakers T&S parameters to get better results and just out of general curiosity to see how good (or bad LOL) my speakers are, I thought I might try making a testing set up.

Do many people bother with these, both of the completed speaker frequency testing type and the speaker parameter testing type.

Is it expensive? I would have thought it would just be a computer with some software and a microphone hooked up to it (and on that note, what are people's thoughts on sennheiser mics?).

Will I need to invest in some acoustic tiles or similar for the room I play my music/testing in?

And finally: Is it difficult?

Hi Nic,

Thare is a lot of info around with many software titles, ranging from free to the gonna-need-a-remortgage variety which include hardware.

Going the DIY/Free route I would suggest Speaker Workshop (SW), a Wallin Jig and Wallin preamp. This set up will allow you test speaker parameters and do acoustic measurements. A search will return a ton of info.

You won't need acoustic tiles for testing.

SW has a high learning curve and requires patience and desire to get through it. But it is free, powerful and rewarding if you get through.
