Default There is water flowing underground....

Okay, I know nobody wants to hear this but I built a pair of Exodus 2641 clones - and no I didn't build my own crossover - I used a dayton 3-way @ 700--5600.

I also used a pair of Sony kevlar full-range instead of the WR-125's - and what's worse I used a pair of Dayton silkies for the tweets instead of the Ushers.

Enough to leave yet?

The cabs are exactly to Kevins specs.

If you're still here, let me tell you - these suckers are amazing. So, if you build them to absolute spec - you will have a pair of amazing speaks.

I'm broke - so I'm stuck where I am - happy though.

D**n, these guys are on top of it. Massive and absolutely amazing..

Maybe I'm weak for using what I had but I had to try...

The real thing must be absolutely fantastic.

But. Do the best you can and you'll be happy.

Nice design.

Massive big-a*s kudos to the design team.

You guys know what you're up to, no doubt - thanks!!!!

Regards,
Tom

As long as you're happy (and it sounds like you're VERY happy), that's all that matters.

I don't think this hobby has to be all or nothing - do what you can afford to do now and you can always modify later, as your skills, knowledge and budget allow.

Cudos. BTW - got any pics?

Default As soon as I can get my Kodak (****) camera up) You got 'em...

They are still raw MDF but I'll post 'em happily...

[edit]

Look at the DIYCable site at the Exodus 2641 kit and you'll see a really nice set of them.

Mine are raw MDF yet, (and not built of the right drivers) but the idea is the same...

Pix on the way...

Tom

Default By the river...

I am amazed that even my 128 MP3's sound great on these things.

Amazing. Design is everything. I am buying the bible immediately!

What you think you know is unimportant, what others have already figured out is critical.

Have to tell you thast many MP3's that were unlistenable are now WOW!

How cool is that?

I am grateful and hope that I learn enuff to do this thing!

[edit]

Of course I think my vicious SE-90 Onkyo DAC and the marvelous pair of UCD 180's are also responsible, but really now - the speaks are critical.

Exodus, nicely done - men!!!

And....

Thanks Bruno! Absolutely fantastic!

Regards,
Tom

Hmmm..........

you used an off the shelf crossover and different drivers.

And you think they sound "amazing"..........

To use the above crossover you probably need at least to zobel
the mid driver and add 8 ohm L-pads for level matching, assuming
the response of the sony kevlar is relatively flat (big assumption).

(edit : probably also need to zobel the bass units)

Also note unlike the 2641 crossover with 2nd order L/R crossovers
the tweeter should be wired out of phase to the midrange unit.

The chances of them sounding anything like the proper design are
extremely remote, so giving "kudos" to the design team when you
haven't built something they have designed is somewhat misplaced.

The real design is probably "fantastic" compared to what you have.

Exactly my point!

Once I get the rest of the right drivers and build the proper crossover there is nowhere to go but up!

Jeez, I just got the darn things built. Proper drivers are on order and I'm assembling the BOM for the XO.

What I've got isn't meant to be a finished speaker. I couldn't just let the empty box hang around when I had shelves full of drivers just lying there!

I had to make it go until I get the rest of the stuff.

Can't wait.

Tom
